switch from a landline to VoIP

5 Signs Your Business Should Switch From a Landline to VoIP

November 27, 2017/in FracTEL Blog, Phone Systems /by FracTEL Content

There are a few probable reasons why you might still be using a landline for your business. You may think your current phone system is working just fine or maybe you’re worried about the expense of switching from a landline to VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol). And of course, maybe it’s just that VoIP just seems so new and complicated. But here’s the thing; VoIP has been around for more than 20 years and is more dependable and easier to use than ever before.

If you haven’t yet switched to VoIP because it seems too complicated or expensive, it’s time to take a deeper look at how VoIP and a cloud-based phone system can transform your company.

Here are 5 signs that it’s time to make the switch from a landline to VoIP.

1. Your Business is Growing

Traditional landline phone systems can be difficult to scale to the needs of a growing business. Traditional PBX has limitations with a fixed number of lines and ports, which means adding more lines and purchasing new equipment. However, with VoIP, you have a cloud-based phone system to which can easily add more employees without having to purchase expensive equipment.

2. Frustrated Customers

If your customers are frustrated by constantly getting a busy signal when they call, having their calls dropped or waiting on hold, only to be picked up by the wrong person, it’s time to switch from a landline to VoIP. A VoIP phone system, with features such as auto-attendant or interactive voicemail, allows your customers to contact your business and their intended party quickly and easily.

3. You Have a Mobile Workforce

When you have employees working remotely from home or located around the world, a traditional landline system makes it impossible to use your business number for contact with clients. A VoIP system makes it easy for these employees to access your business phone system from any location and to be reached by clients as needed.

4. Your Phone System Isn’t Cost Effective

Between equipment costs, long distance calling and mobile bills, a business phone system with a traditional landline can be very costly. Making the switch from a landline to VoIP reduces these costs significantly. There’s no need to frequently update your phone system equipment, and long-distance charges will become a thing of the past. It also allows options for creating bring your own device (BYOD) policies that can integrate your employees’ devices to cut down on mobile costs.

5. Supporting Your Phone System is Too Time-Consuming

When you have a landline PBX system, it needs to be maintained by in-house staff or your IT department. Having to maintain an aging phone system takes your staff away from other important duties. Switching to VoIP eliminates the time spent keeping your phone system up and running.

FracTEL is setting the standard for easy set-up, call quality, and reliability that reduces IT support needs. We offer seamless onboarding, robust collaboration features and scalable communications solutions that help you focus on growing your business. An Automated Receptionist Could be Your Best Employee

October 31, 2017/in FracTEL Blog, Phone Systems /by FracTEL Content

The workplace is becoming increasingly fragmented, with employees frequently telecommuting from areas all across the country. In addition to this, the desire for a direct line of communication between your clients and your business is greater than ever. To keep up with the increasingly complicated web of communication, smart business owners are leveraging automated receptionist services, and it’s dramatically increasing the efficiency of their phone systems.

What is an Automated Receptionist?

An automated receptionist, also known as an auto-attendant, is an intelligent, automated phone answering solution. Auto-receptionists will answer your calls and guide them to the appropriate extension. In truth, they do so much more than that. With features that allow you to receive voicemails as emails and priority call forwarding, you never miss an important call.

In the past, automated call answering may have come across as cold or difficult to use, but auto-receptionist services have come far in the past decade. They are capable of utilizing modern technology to provide customers with a more natural experience. In fact, consumers are accepting, and even embracing, virtual aides like Amazon’s Alexa and Apple’s Siri.

Why Automated Receptionists Make Great Employees

With an increasingly mobile workforce, it becomes difficult for in-office receptionists to keep track of where staff members are located and transfer calls to them in a timely manner. Fielding business calls is no longer as simple as it once was and maintaining consistent, quality communication with customers is more important to your brand than ever.

Automated receptionists offer distinct advantages over a live receptionist. One key benefit of an auto-attendant is consistency. As a business, it is important that you are always available to clients and potential customers even when you are out of the office. Auto-attendants provide clients with 24/7 access and modern cloud-based telecommunications services can promise 100% uptime.

In addition, they are cost-effective. The cost of installing and maintaining auto-attendant software is significantly lower than hiring a full-time receptionist.

With all of these features, you might be thinking that a system like this is difficult to install and maintain, right? This couldn’t be further from the truth. Most modern automated receptionist systems are plug-and-play and can be up and ready to go within minutes. An auto-attendant could be doing its job in a fraction of the time that it would take to train a new employee.

An automated receptionist is a smart way to handle customer calls and it can provide significant savings over a traditional receptionist. FracTEL’s Cloud PBX gives you access to Fortune 500 business phone features, including an auto-attendant, for a low monthly price. No complicated contracts, just the features you need for a flat rate per user.

Mobile Marketing Helps Businesses Grow Faster

October 19, 2017/in FracTEL Blog /by FracTEL Content

It seems today that business is moving faster than ever. However, there are some small to mid-sized business (SMB) owners that are finding it difficult to keep up, let alone stay ahead of all the innovations in business technology and mobility. If you want your business to grow, you need to increase information flow not only within your business, but also to your customers and vendors. And this is where advances in business phone systems can help by bringing their exceptional functionality to promote growth via mobile marketing.

How is Mobile Marketing Being Implemented?

More than 50 percent of the population uses their smartphones every day and marketers have taken note of this. The use of mobile marketing efforts and text-based marketing via cloud-based phone systems is leading the way for not only enterprise level businesses, but also for SMBs.

Consider these mobile marketing ideas that are now possible and affordable for SMBs:

  • Using text messaging through phone systems to contact customers
  • Sending location-based messaging and push-based messaging to mobile phones
  • Using SMS to announce sales and new product arrivals

Mobile Marketing Fuels Growth

Mobile marketing is a cost-effective way to reach targeted customers. According to Mobile Marketing Watch, 98% of SMS messages are opened. SMS marketing is permission-based, so those receiving the messages have willingly opted-in and are expecting a business’ messages. This highly targeted approach yields higher returns and greater customer satisfaction than email which often ends up in spam folders.

Mobile marketing has an immediate effect. Most people check their messages as soon as they receive them. When you can reach your customers at any time, wherever they are, you have an opportunity to build a relationship with them. Sending messages about sales and new product arrivals in advance of announcing them to the public is a way to make mobile customers feel special which can lead to increased sales and loyalty.

Benefits of Phone-Based Marketing

SMS functionality for SMBs is a popular feature with cloud-based phone systems. These systems provide an affordable way for SMBs to broaden their flexibility, automate their marketing and scale their systems.

Automating marketing can:

  • Boost your sales by integrating your desktop phone system with an on-screen CRM database. You can have instant access to your past customer interactions to increase your opportunities for upselling.
  • Improve your customer’s experience by providing useful business information while they are on hold. Calls can be recorded and monitored for review or training purposes, while marketing can be improved by analyzing call content, caller response rates and call times.
  • Create better advertising by using multiple numbers where you can test the effectiveness of different advertising messages and offers to see what works best for you. It is also possible to increase response rates by creating personalized numbers that are easy to remember.

Upgrading to a cloud-based phone system for your marketing efforts can provide you with significant savings over the cost of using traditional phone systems. If you want to save money and build more marketing value from your business’s phone system, a cloud-based phone system is a major asset for boosting your company’s marketing effectiveness.

FracTEL’s Cloud-based phone solutions take mobile marketing to the next level. SMBs are finding that our feature-rich system gives them the options they need to scale and grow their businesses. Using SMS and integrating it with a phone-based, automated marketing is a cost-effective way to reach targeted customers and drive sales.

teleconferencing

5 Ways Teleconferencing is Impacting Today’s Businesses

October 11, 2017/in FracTEL Blog, Phone Systems /by FracTEL Content

One of the advantages of switching to a cloud-based phone system for your business is the ability to connect instantly with two or more people and conduct a teleconference over one phone call. If you don’t presently have a cloud-based phone system or haven’t yet taken advantage of this great feature take a look at the advantages.

Here are 5 ways teleconferencing is making an impact on today’s businesses.

  1. Improves Speed of Project Completion

Screen-to-screen communication allows teams to communicate more efficiently and saves time by eliminating the need for in-person meetings. Having the ability to conference with team members can increase the speed of project completion and reduce costs.

  1. Makes Remote Working Possible

Remote workers reduce the need for additional office space, and teleconferencing makes it possible for everyone to participate in meetings or discuss work by simply pushing a few buttons. Teleconferencing can reduce logistical and cost barriers that inhibit team growth.

  1. Common Link for Branch Offices

Having multiple branches, whether spread out throughout the country or around the world, can put a drain on the travel budget when meetings are needed. Teleconferencing greatly reduces the need for travel and allows for instant communications when needed. This can be very important when news needs to be shared quickly with multiple stakeholders.

  1. Helps B2B Communications

Time is money. When working with other businesses, it can be inconvenient to schedule time for a meeting where everyone can be present without taking time away from the office. Teleconferencing eliminates the need for traveling to a vendor or supplier’s office by allowing you to meet from anywhere, at any time.

  1. Cuts Down on Business Travel

Business travel is expensive and, at times, inconvenient for all parties involved. Coordinating schedules, making travel arrangements and coordinating meetings is a time-intensive process. Flight delays and emergencies can prevent meetings from taking place and then you’re back to square one. Teleconferencing eliminates travel expenses, such as planes fares, transportation from the airport, hotel costs and meal expenses. The better option is holding a teleconference from your desk with your cloud-based phone system.

Let FracTEL show you how conferencing with a Cloud-Based Phone System can improve the way you do business in today’s global economy.

VoIP Better Than Analog

Is VoIP Really Better Than Analog?

September 28, 2017/in FracTEL Blog, Phone Systems /by FracTEL Content

Is VoIP really better than analog? We get this question often and it’s understandable to be skeptical. After all, you’ve been using your analog phone system for years and you have become accustomed to the way it works and its features.

You may even be wondering, what is VoIP? VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol. It’s basically phone service over the internet.

What usually leads people to explore Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is that they realize their current phone system hasn’t evolved to fit the way business works today. We are an increasingly mobile workforce – often on the go, doing business on our phones, wherever we are. Our cell phones, mobile devices, and computers have become the primary means of business communication. It only makes sense that our business phone systems should be integrated into the way we really work.

Many businesses have made the switch to VoIP because of the lower price and the increased functionality. If you have been hesitant to change or have doubts about whether digital phone technology is more reliable or better than analog, there are a few things to consider.

Limitations of Analog Phone Systems

An analog phone system does not offer as much flexibility as VoIP does. An analog system limits you to only a few features and makes it difficult to handle many calls at once. This can be a problem if you have a business that receives hundreds or thousands of calls coming in each day. Call waiting, hold and mute features that are common with analog phones aren’t enough to run your phone system efficiently.

An analog system needs to be connected to static wiring. You need to take this into consideration if you ever decide to move your business to a new location. You will need to have your new location rewired to fit your analog phone needs. This raises the issue of the costs to install, configure, maintain and upgrade an analog phone system.

What VoIP can do That Analog Can’t

Instead of copper wire and POTS (plain old telephone service) phones, a VoIP phone system utilizes the Internet through digital technology that sends and receives voice signals that have been transformed into data packets. The features of analog systems comprise of call-forwarding, mute, call transferring, redial and speed-dial and that’s about it. Analog systems cannot match the features that digital offers.

Because VoIP is digital, its features are almost limitless, and you can choose the features that work best for your business. Features like auto-attendant, call re-routing, voicemail to email or follow-me that help businesses stay connected while staff are mobile. VoIP is extremely portable and can be accessed from wherever there is Internet access. Employees can work remotely without jeopardizing call quality or level of service to customers.

A VoIP phone system is less costly to set up and install, making it cost-effective for businesses of all sizes. As your business grows, a VoIP phone system can be easily expanded right along with it. It’s easy to set up and configure without the need for additional wiring, allowing the system to expand with the growth of your business without added expense.

business connected during a disaster

Three Tips for Maintaining Business Continuity During a Natural Disaster

September 19, 2017/in FracTEL Blog /by FracTEL Content

Let’s be honest, no business is immune to the effects of a natural disaster. However, by taking some steps now your business can confidently maintain business continuity and seamless communications during and after a devastating event. Below are three strategies you can implement to ensure 100% connectivity no matter what happens.

1. Develop A Strategy to Redirect Calls

When the recent storms hit, fallen phone lines and damage to critical telecommunications equipment left many customers hearing a busy signal. Companies could have avoided this by simply having a business infrastructure in place that allowed calls to be quickly and easily re-routed to an alternate location; such as a secondary office, an outsourced call center, or employee cell phones.

2. Be Prepared to Deal with Increased Call Volume

When disaster strikes, people are often left in a panic. Your business may have an influx of calls from concerned customers. Make sure your phone system can easily add capacity remotely, or even automatically. The ability to intelligently route overflow calls will provide a dramatically better experience for your already anxious callers.

3. Make Sure Your Employees Are Mobile

Often natural disasters cause employees to be geographically dispersed to safer locations. By implementing mobility apps as part of your business communication infrastructure; phones, tablets, and laptops can function as office extensions. This way, employees can effortlessly make and receive calls using their normal published business phone numbers, while having their voicemail routed directly to them, no matter where they are.

To get these strategies implemented today, talk to your company’s IT professionals, or reach out to FracTEL.

Switching Business Phone Services

Switching Business Phone Services? Look for These 6 Features to Get More Bang for Your Buck

September 12, 2017/in FracTEL Blog /by FracTEL Content

If your business has outgrown its current phone service and you’re looking to scale to a more advanced system, you are probably noticing that the latest technology is Cloud PBX.

Cloud PBX technology brings together cloud computing and a PBX phone system. The cloud allows data to be stored and accessed over the internet instead of requiring a dedicated computer or server. Public Branch Exchange (PBX) is a phone technology that is used by telephone providers to route calls. In the past, PBX technology required a significant investment in hardware, installation and maintenance and that system needed to be run on-site. With Cloud PBX business phone services, you are basically getting a phone system that is based over the internet. A cloud-based network allows you to have voice, data, and video on the same platform.

If you’re switching your business phone services to a Cloud PBX phone system, it’s easy to become overwhelmed with the various features that are available. As a cost-conscious business owner, you want to make sure you are getting the most bang for your buck by selecting the right system with features that you need and will use. You need features that can scale with your business.

Here are five business phone service features to consider:

  1. Auto-Attendant

Having an auto-attendant can help take away the frustration callers often have when trying to reach a specific person or department. This function allows callers to select a touch tone option from a menu. Your recordings and options can be updated from your Admin Portal very easily.

  1. Voice Mail

This feature provides a voicemail box for every extension on your phone system for messages when calls cannot be answered personally. Employees can have secure access to their messages not only through their phone but also through their email or an app installed on their smartphone.

  1. Call Forwarding

The call forwarding function allows users to easily route calls to another extension or telephone number when they are not available in the office on a temporary or permanent basis when needed. This ensures that important calls reach their intended party quickly.

  1. Follow Me

You and your employees can always stay connected and never miss an important call with the follow me feature. As business is becoming more and more mobile, your business phone services should reflect that with a feature, such as follow me that programs your incoming call to ring multiple devices all at once or in order.

  1.  Smartphone Integration

This feature allows you to take the features of your desk phone with you on the go with an app for your Android or iOS phone. With Smartphone integration, your outbound calls will show up on the called party’s caller ID as your business number.

  1. Video Conferencing

There are times when a face-to-face conversation works better than a phone call, but time and location make an in-person meeting difficult to arrange. Staying connected with employees and customers remotely is possible thanks to video conferencing technology. A cloud based telecommunications system allows you to connect with your employees and customers via video, helping establish better relationships while saving time and money.

FracTEL provides advanced Cloud PBX technology, helping businesses stay connected to their customers with a single, easy to deploy, simple to manage telecommunication solution. Our state of the art network provides more than 25 features for one easy price so you get more out of your business phone service. Discover how our Cloud PBX solution can help your business grow faster by migrating to the cloud with a 100% uptime guarantee.

Dependable Business Phone System

A Dependable Business Phone System is Crucial to Your Growth

September 7, 2017/in FracTEL Blog /by FracTEL Content

Missed phone calls mean missed opportunities.

If your business phone system is not dependable and you have calls dropping from poor quality, or your customers get frustrated trying to navigate it, you are likely missing opportunities. These are opportunities for business growth, opportunities for satisfied customers and opportunities to outdo your competitors.

Considering New Technology, is the Telephone Dead?

No, in fact, consumers still contact companies either to make a purchase, book an appointment or get customer service support primarily via the phone. Technology can often be a barrier between a company and its customers which is why customer service is more important than ever. Customers want to feel valued, not like technology has turned them into a commodity.

According to research by NewVoiceMedia:

  • $41 billion is lost each year due to poor customer service
  • 75% of consumers think calling is most effective for a quick response
  • 53% are irritated if they don’t speak to a real person immediately
  • 59% prefer to contact a business by phone
  • 25% of consumers switch to a different company because they are tired of being put on hold
  • After a positive experience, 69% would recommend the company to others and 50% would use the company more frequently

What Your Phone System Says About Your Business

Whether you like it or not, the state of your business phone system makes an impression on your customers. You have likely had your own experience with trying to reach a customer service department, only to have your call dropped during a transfer. This can be very frustrating, especially when you are seeking answers to critical questions you have about a product or service. It also gives you a poor impression of the company you are attempting to contact.

The same could be said for your own business phone system. If your customers can’t reach you or your system’s call quality is poor…what impression are you giving your customers? A bad one because your customers or potential customers might consider your business to be unprofessional, or worse yet, your customers will think you just don’t care. If this sounds like your phone system, maybe it is time to make a change for the better.

Cloud PBX for a Dependable Business Phone System

Upgrading your business phone system to Cloud PBX guarantees that your system is up and ready at all times because your system is continually monitored to catch problems before they cause a service issue. You are always assured excellent call quality.

Dependability and call quality from Cloud PBX can help improve the impression that your customers are getting from your business, but this type of system offers even more than dependability. No matter the size of your business, your phone system can offer features that make your business look more professional, such as an auto-attendant and voicemail that can direct calls to where they need to be without dropping transferred calls. You’ll never miss a voice mail message with features like Voice2Email, Fax2Email, and smartphone integration.

Considering that 96% of a typical business’ marketing budget is spent persuading a customer to call, shouldn’t your phone system be a top priority? If your phone system isn’t dependable and your customers or potential customers can’t reach you, they will look for other options by calling your competition. Learn how a dependable Cloud PBX system can assure that your customers know they are valued and appreciated and that you are there to serve them with top tier care.

How to Stop Being a Business VoIP Reseller Sucker

April 7, 2017/in FracTEL Blog /by FracTEL Content

In Part 1: Why Reselling Business VoIP is for Suckers, we talked about how I got played for a Reseller Sucker, and some questions you should ask yourself and your provider partners to determine if you also suffer from “Reseller Sucker Syndrome”.

In this installment, we will talk about how companies get trapped as a Reseller Sucker, why traditional alternatives are costly and difficult, and a new “Third Way” that can help you create a future where your destiny is your own.

Previously, we revealed the naked truth about Business VoIP reselling:

Lesson #1: IF YOU DON’T OWN THE END USER, YOU ARE A SUCKER.

The typical reseller arrangement is highly asymmetric and dysfunctional. The reseller’s good will and hard work facilitated the customer relationship. The end user and provider both hold the reseller responsible for maintaining the business relationship. And finally, the reseller’s reputation suffers the most if the relationship sours. And yet, there is simply no denying that if you do not own the customer, you have very little control over the most important aspects of making the relationship a successful one for your customer, let alone a profitable one for you.

Why do so many accept this as their lot? How did this situation come to be? It clearly falls far short of what we should expect for our hard work.

In my opinion there are three principal reasons why this status quo in the telecom sales channel has prevailed for so long:

1) It is a very lucrative business.

Telecom was one of the first industries to recognize the power of recurring revenue, and it has been a gravy train ever since. Flawed as the system is, successful resellers can make a lot of money, so they accept things as they are.

2) Networks are expensive.

While deploying a VoIP network requires a fraction of the capital needed to build a traditional TDM network, it remains an expensive and complicated endeavor – well beyond the means of most resellers.

3) Taxes and Regulations.

Telecom is highly regulated and heavily taxed. Setting up an operating telco is not, and will never be, a simple matter of hanging out a shingle. There are serious consequences for those who try to operate outside the rules, and the rules can be very complicated.

The typical revenue split to the reseller is somewhere in the range of 10-25%. I won’t quarrel with the fairness of the split, the industry has had plenty of time to arrive at that. But even if we assume that the reseller’s commission is fair, pricing transparency and lack of control over end user discounting typically put the reseller at the mercy of the provider and it certainly reduces his ability to bundle services attractively or otherwise deal creatively with the customer. This is a key consideration: If you own the customer, you decide what your margins need to be on a given deal. You decide how to structure the deal around the customer’s budgets and schedules. You decide when it’s appropriate to give a little in the short term to build the relationship for the long term.

Have you already recognize the value in owning the end user? You have probably contemplated or maybe even attempted providing Business VoIP services yourself. There are a number of reputable vendors and Open Source projects that can provide the core network technology to provide VoIP service and even Hosted PBX. The expense and complexity associated with this effort will vary depending on the level of functionality, number of customers and degree of reliability desired, but the financial commitment required to build, maintain, and manage a commercial quality Business VoIP network has proven to be beyond the means of most resellers. Of course, a savvy aspiring provider would also have to ask himself honestly if he can realistically achieve the reliability and functionality required to successfully compete with the established providers. The bar is high.

A number of enterprising DIY providers have decided to take the leap and set up shop as a service provider. Because they usually serve a relatively small number of customers, and because the cost and complexity of establishing and maintaining compliance is high, the vast majority of these providers operate “under the radar” of tax and regulatory authorities. Many mistakenly believe that because they pay taxes directly to their underlying carriers that they are not required to file and report with the FCC and state authorities. They are mistaken, and the fines associated with non-compliance or non-payment can be millions of dollars. Of course, ignorance is not an excuse. Is it worth it to put your entire enterprise at risk? Most non-compliant providers would be compliant if it wasn’t so darn difficult. Having someone on your staff that has the knowledge and expertise to keep you legal is just not a realistic option for most small businesses.

So, we see that while selling business telecom is a profitable business, the typical reseller is stuck between two unpalatable options: On the one hand, suffer with “Reseller Sucker Syndrome” (a rock). On the other hand, make the sizable investment and commitment required to build out a network become an FCC licensed and registered service provider (a hard place).

Would you be interested if I told you there is a “Third Way”? FracTEL is now offering the industry’s first true turnkey service provider program, a solution that makes owning the customer easier and less expensive than it has ever been before – with no compromises. Let FracTEL help you seize control of your destiny as a reseller.

Reselling Business VoIP is for Suckers

April 6, 2017/in FracTEL Blog /by FracTEL Content

When I introduce FracTEL to potential channel partners, one of the first things I tell them is “Reselling Business VoIP is for suckers”. I’m sure they usually think “What the heck? That’s not a very enticing way to recruit me into your program.” And maybe it isn’t – but it’s the truth, and it may be the industries dirtiest little secret. Let me tell you what I mean.

It begins with a story that many resellers can relate to.

Sometime in the 2004-2005 time frame, I was running a very successful business building and installing Asterisk-based PBX appliances for business customers. Many of those customers were aware of the emerging residential VoIP services and, recognizing the benefits of the technology, it was only natural that some of them would express an interest in connecting their systems through one of these VoIP services.

We began experimenting with ways of connecting multiple lines to one of the popular residential service providers using the typical analog adapters, but it wasn’t really a viable solution. We managed to get in contact with the right people at the provider and we pitched them on the idea of selling a “Business Class” service. With some persistence, we eventually connected with an ambitious product manager and together we convinced them to create a program. It was truly a pioneering product – one of the first “SIP Trunking” offerings on the market – and it proved to be very popular with our customers. We sold enough of it to become their leading reseller in all of North America.

All was great for a couple of years, but as it happens sometimes, circumstances beyond our control began to impact our success. First, the structure of our commissions began to change. I don’t honestly remember exactly how the policy was revised, but I know for sure that it was not to our benefit. What I do remember is the powerless feeling that came when, even as the biggest reseller in their channel, we were not able to exert any influence over the policy.

A few months later we received notice that our contact at the provider – our internal champion – was moving on, and that the future of the program was uncertain. Ultimately, they decided that it required too much support and that it wasn’t “consistent with their business model.”

At first, they stopped taking new customers, but continued to support existing customers. As the program declined, the accuracy and reliability of our commission payments declined as well. About a year later, it was discontinued.

I guess killing this small-potatoes program made sense at the time, at least from the corporate perspective. They had much bigger fish to fry. It still seems short sighted to me, but that’s not really the point. From our perspective, it was a disaster. Not only did we lose a significant revenue stream that we had worked very hard for, but we now had a substantial base of loyal clients that had come to depend on this service, and there was no real alternative out there to replace it for them.

As they say, when one door closes, another door opens. Being naturally ambitious, we took the lessons we learned from the experience and created our own service to replace the one we were losing. A couple of months of sleepless nights later, FracTEL was born.

“How hard can it be?” I remember thinking. Well, it turns out to be one of those things that is not that hard to do, but very hard to do well. We spent the next 10 years perfecting our network and service delivery systems, which is a longer story for another day.

And now you’re thinking, “OK. Cool story, Bro. What’s the point?”

Well, here it is: We were suckers.

Even when the program was going smoothly, we felt our commissions were unfair and inconsistent. We had no control over the way our customers were treated, and in the end the rug was pulled out from under us with little warning and no recourse.

Like many things, it was unpleasant at the time, but in retrospect it was one of the best things that ever happened to us. The experience taught us some very important lessons that we leveraged to achieve far greater success than we would have otherwise.

Lesson#1: IF YOU DON’T OWN THE END USER, YOU ARE A SUCKER.

Any arrangement where you rely on a partner to bill your customer and pay you a commission will not go well for your company. You will always end up on the short end of the deal. If you are acting as an agent or reseller for a product or service, you should always ask yourself these questions:

  • How long do I have to wait before I start receiving my commissions?
  • Do I receive a recurring commission as long as my customer is retained?
  • How accurate are my commissions?
  • How often do I have to dispute my commissions?
  • Are my commissions evergreen?
  • What will happen if my partner discontinues my program?
  • What will happen if my partner is acquired or goes out of business?

If any of these questions cannot be answered to your satisfaction, you could be suffering from “Reseller Sucker Syndrome”, and you might want to think hard about whether you need to change your situation.

Of course, you may be saying to yourself “Yeah, I know it stinks but that’s just how it is.”

The truth is – There is a Better Way.

Hurricane Matthew Update #3

October 10, 2016/in FracTEL Blog /by FracTEL Content

FracTEL 100% Operational After Hurricane Matthew

As the remnants of Hurricane Matthew headed out into the North Atlantic, the FracTEL team along with other residents of the East Coast are heading back to their homes to survey the damage and begin the process of returning to normalcy. The Space Coast, where our headquarters is located, was spared the worst of the damage through a combination of fortunate events – low tide, last minute change of track, eye wall reorganization  – however, our neighbors to the north in St. Augustine were not so fortunate. Flood and wind damage there is severe. While a widespread catastrophe was avoided, many families and businesses are suffering and power and water are still being restored in communities along the coast. Overall, the impact of the storm on the US was far less destructive than it could have been, but the damage in other areas was severe, with Haiti particularly hard hit.

The good news for FracTEL is that our network maintained 100% uptime for all services through the storm and we were able to support business continuity for our customers. At this time, our offices are open and we remain 100% operational. The fact that our technology has helped in a small way to minimize the impact of this disaster is gratifying.

We know that many, including some of our customers, are still struggling to repair damage and return to normalcy. Our thoughts are with you, and we will be doing everything we can to assist in this stressful time.

Hurricane Matthew Update #2

October 7, 2016/in FracTEL Blog /by FracTEL Content

FracTEL Weathers Hurricane Matthew

While millions remain in harms way from a very dangerous Hurricane Matthew, the worst appears to be past for FracTEL. The storm moved through the Space Coast early Thursday morning, with the eye wall – where the most dangerous winds occur – passing within 30 miles of our offices.

We are no longer concerned for the worst, but now the next, and almost as difficult, phase begins – waiting for news and return to normalcy. Power is out for many areas and access to the barrier island where our headquarters is located remains restricted. It will likely be several more hours before we have a full report on the status of our facilities and likely even longer before we can get full access.

There is much good news, but the best is that the FracTEL network performed flawlessly. Network uptime has remained 100% for the duration of the event and, based on support ticket activity, almost all of our valued customers have so far weathered the storm with minimal disruption.

We continue to be concerned for those who remain in harms way and it will be several more days before the threat from Matthew is behind us. Occasions like this do not pass without reflection on those things in life that we value the most, and how quickly and arbitrarily it can all be taken away. Treasure your loved ones and care for each other.

For any service impacting emergencies, you can always contact the FracTEL support team at 321-989-6727.

Hurricane Matthew Update #1

October 6, 2016/in FracTEL Blog /by FracTEL Content

FracTEL is Prepared for a Major Hurricane

It now appears likely that Florida’s East Coast will be severely impacted by Hurricane Matthew. The storm is currently classified as a Category 4 hurricane with 140mph winds, and is anticipated to maintain current strength as it approaches Florida. Projections show it passing perilously close to the Space Coast and possibly making landfall in the area. As of 3:00PM yesterday, the barrier islands of Brevard County – where our headquarters is located – are under a mandatory evacuation order, so our offices will be closed Thursday 10/6 and Friday 10/7. We hope to resume business as usual on Monday morning. In the meantime, the FracTEL team is leveraging our cloud-based infrastructure to work remotely in support of our customers – especially those based in areas affected by the storm.

The FracTEL team has endured severe tropical weather before, and we are prepared. Our experience with natural disasters has been a profound influence on the architecture and deployment of our network, and it was explicitly designed to withstand events like this one. FracTEL facilities and network components are all triple redundant and none are located in Florida, so no network impact is anticipated. Currently, all FracTEL services are 100% functional and are expected to remain so for the duration of the event. However, there may be some delays with non-essential activities such as billing and LNP processing while we focus on critical requests.

At times like these, our thoughts turn to the well being of our families, friends and valued customers who are affected by this calamity. Please know that our thoughts are with you, and that we stand ready to assist you in any way we can.

Above all, PLEASE STAY SAFE!

Preparing for Hurricane Matthew

October 4, 2016/in FracTEL Blog /by FracTEL Content

It’s Time to Prepare!

We don’t know for sure whether Hurricane Matthew will affect the East Coast, but at this time it appears that residents should prepare.  We also aren’t sure how powerful it will be when it arrives. One thing we can be sure of is that the triple redundant FracTEL network will be safe and will remain 100% fully functional regardless of Hurricane Matthew’s impact.

As a precaution, we would like to offer some guidance on how to prepare for the storm, and to suggest some options for configuring your FracTEL phone system so that your customers can keep in contact with you in the event that you are forced to evacuate, or if there is a loss of internet or power at your facility. Always remember that you can contact the FracTEL support team with an email to support@fractel.net for assistance with setting up failover routing to an alternate location or to your mobile devices.

FracTEL Provides Business Continuity

One of the biggest benefits of the FracTEL Cloud-Based architecture is that all inbound phone calls route to one of our triple redundant data centers before being forwarded to your facility. This allows you to program failover options so that if we are unable to connect calls to your FracTEL phone for any reason, the call can be forwarded to another location – to your mobile devices, to an answering service, or any other way you want to handle them.

An additional benefit of the FracTEL Cloud PBX system is that your extension moves with your device. If you need to relocate temporarily to another office or work from home, you can take your phone with you and it will function properly as long as it has a working internet connection.

Another great capability facilitated by Cloud PBX is the option to configure an auto-attendant with a recorded greeting that will let your customers know about the pending storm, how it might affect your business, and provide them with information and updates as the situation evolves.

If you don’t have it already, this might also be a good time to install the FracTELfone app on your Android or iOS smartphone. You can use the FracTELfone App to make and receive calls as if you are calling from your desk phone in your office. You can also check your office voicemail.

Preparing Your Office for the Storm

Here are some general tips for preparing your business for a storm:

  • Ensure you have an up-to-date local backup of your computer(s).  You can use Windows Backup in Windows 7 or 10, or Time Machine on a Mac.
  • Move sensitive electronics away from windows or any location that might be exposed to water penetration.
  • Perform a software and data inventory on your computer (list programs you have installed, confirm backup and restore procedures, etc.)
  • Confirm you have your passwords in order.
  • Perform a Home / Business Video Inventory for insurance purposes.  This is easiest to film and narrate on your smart phone, and will show all of your electronics and equipment in their current condition.
  • Make sure laptops and cell phones are fully charged, you have sufficient car chargers, and consider purchasing some USB device rechargers to recharge your phone(s) and tablet(s) in the event of a power outage.
  • Non-essential devices should be unplugged from the wall .
  • Elevated electronics off of the floor (this includes computers / wires / surge protectors / etc.).
  • Disconnect coaxial cables from your modem and cable box(es), and phone and Ethernet cables from computers (lightning can short out equipment via coaxial, phone and Ethernet cables).
  • Essential devices without an internal battery should be plugged into a battery backup, or at a minimum a quality surge protector. This includes computer(s), phone system(s), and network equipment.
  • Make sure devices that are set to turn back on when power is restored after a power loss.

Get Up and Running After the Storm

These are general tips for using your computers and other electronics after a storm:

  • If all is well, reconnect your equipment the way it was before. If you use a modem with a separate router, power them on in this order:  Modem – wait for it to sync / connection light to turn solid or about 3 minutes, then turn on your router.  After that turn on your computer(s) and you should have network and internet access pending any service provider outages…
  • If all is NOT well and you need to run a generator, DO NOT plug your computer(s) or network equipment directly into a generator! Your computer is sensitive to electricity and most generators do not deliver a steady, conditioned stream of electricity. If you must run your computer equipment, make sure a good quality battery backup (recommended) or surge protector (at a minimum) is between the computer equipment and your generator.
  • For any service impacting emergencies, you can always contact the FracTEL support team at 321-989-6727.

Net Neutrality Faces Showdown in Federal Courts

December 4, 2015/in FracTEL Blog /by FracTEL Content

“The Internet’s future hangs in the balance today as three federal judges in Washington decide whether to strike down “net neutrality.” This is the popular term for a legal principle, embraced by the Federal Communications Commission this year, that means Internet providers can’t favor some websites over others when delivering content to consumers.”

There is a great nutshell summary on entrepreneur.com of the opposing views and high stakes involved as the telecom industry sues the FCC in Federal Court to overturn their recent ruling in support of Net Neutrality. Of course, contrary to predictions from industry pundits, it hasn’t resulted in massive tax increases nor has it significantly impacted investment in new infrastructure. In fact, it hasn’t really even resulted in Net Neutrality. T-Mobile recently announced their “fast lane” program called Binge On, wrapped nicely in a bow for Holiday Shoppers. They must be pretty confident that they will prevail – maybe the fix is in. I am cynical enough to believe it is. FracTEL is a long time proponent of Net Neutrality and truly believes that it is best for the consumer and for the industry. Supporters seems confident that Net Neutrality will survive the challenge. We hope that it does. Either way, it is likely to end up in the Supreme Court soon.

FCC to Consider Normalizing Communications with Cuba

November 25, 2015/in FracTEL Blog /by FracTEL Content

“We propose to remove Cuba from the Exclusion List based on the State Department Letter announcing certain changes to its policy guidance and requesting that the Commission remove Cuba from the Exclusion List. We seek comment on this proposal, and, in doing so, we follow the procedures regularly used to remove a country from the Exclusion List.”

The above quote is from an FCC solicitation for comment with respect to International Bureau Docket No. 95-118, and you can file this one under “It is about F%^&ing time.”  Almost everyone knows that for the last 55 years the policy of the United States towards Cuba has been hostile. Some would say beyond reason. Unless you have family or friends there, you may not know that that the restrictive trade policies of the U.S. towards Cuba extend to simple telephone communications. Fortunately, that may be changing soon. Cuba, uniquely, almost thirty years after the end of the cold war, remains on a list of countries that require special exemption from the the FCC to communicate with legally. Russia? Not on the list. North Korea? Not on the list. Iran? Iraq? Syria? Libya? Not on the list. This “special” treatment means that while the tariff for most international calls is somewhere in the $.02-.10 range, calls to Cuba typically cost an order of magnitude more. Ironically, communications from the U.S. with Cuba have been characterized by a lack of competition and the resulting profiteering that one might expect. Once more, we salute the efforts of the current FCC administration to act in the interests of the consumer, and to support normalization of trade with one of our closest neighbors. If you are in a position to support this policy change, please join us in doing so.

Getting Meta with the Inbound Marketing Masters

October 22, 2015/in FracTEL Blog /by FracTEL Content

“When you don’t have the right system in place, running a marketing campaign can be messy business. From assigning ownership over certain tasks, to establishing deadlines, to collaborating with campaign stakeholders, to writing and editing copy … there’s a lot to manage. And with so many moving pieces to consider, disorganization can be a major enemy. That’s where Google Apps comes into play.”

The above quote comes straight out of a white paper from HubSpot, Inbound Marketing thought leaders and purveyors of one of the best known Cloud-Based software tools for Marketing Automation. There is some great advice in the white paper, especially for those that are working on a tight budget. After absorbing all of those tips, one might ask why a Marketing Automation provider would promote a process and a suite of tools for Inbound Marketing that are not only from another company, but free? Because they get it, that’s why.

Do you get it? If not, consider train of thought: HubSpot believes that by helping you dip your toe in the Inbound Marketing waters you will see the benefits and eventually dive in head first. They also believe that you will eventually outgrow and tire of the “free” tools you cut your teeth with. When that happens, and you need to spend some real money on Marketing Automation, HubSpot will have earned your trust and favor through careful and deliberate cultivation. The probability that you will eventually purchase HubSpot is much higher, and they will have gathered very detailed information about who, when, where, and how that happened – information that they can use to further refine their tactics.

When it comes to Inbound Marketing, I have come to be convinced that there is simply no better strategy for getting educated than to go straight to the leaders – HubSpot, Marketo, InfusionSoft, Velocify, etc. They offer great – no, make that awesome – content to help you understand the sophisticated strategies and processes associated with the discipline – and you can learn even more by carefully observing how they ply their trade on rubes like us.

Let’s get back to the white paper and see what we can learn about Inbound Marketing from it. Lesson number one; the advertisement/link for this download was on Facebook. Why advertise for a business product on Facebook? It’s where the people are. Using a re-targeting algorithm, HubSpot continuously, at a very specific cadence to avoid being creepy, chums Facebook and other websites with content that it thinks I will find interesting based on the profile they have developed for me. In this case, they have inferred that I am keen on the topic, but not yet a buyer after several contacts – maybe because I am frugal (thus, the free alternative). Lesson number two; while some of it is not, this content was gated (requiring that I provide info to download). While they already had my basic info from previous contacts, this content required a few extra questions so they could fill in the gaps in my profile. Lesson number three; they followed up with a very personalized email offering more info and a “Free Trial”. Based on my experience, they will be following up again in a few days with another email or maybe even a phone call.

I would definitely encourage those who want to learn Inbound Marketing to start getting schooled by the masters. But, as with many things in life and business, pay at least as much attention to what they do as what they say.

Cloud and Open Source Have Transformed Venture Capital

October 15, 2015/in FracTEL Blog /by FracTEL Content

“In fact, angels have nearly completely replaced venture capital at the seed stage, which means they are the first to form critical relationships with founders. True, this has led to an explosion in new companies far beyond the levels seen previously, which is entirely expected — lower barriers to entry to any market means more total entries — but this has actually made it even more difficult for venture capitalists to invest in seed rounds: most aren’t capable of writing massive numbers of seed checks; the amounts are just too small to justify the effort.”

In a classic case of man bites dog, mounting evidence supports the thesis that Cloud, SaaS, Open Source, and other technologies that fueled the explosive success of the current Venture Capital giants has actually transformed the startup world to the point that these same funds are finding themselves squeezed out of participation in the next generation of startup or “seed stage” companies.

In the software world at least, the cost of developing an idea to the point of a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) is now so low that it is possible for a savvy entrepreneur to develop a business to the commercial stage for a small fraction of what it would have cost even a few years ago. Because VC funds are typically subject to relatively steep fees and management costs, these smaller investment asks at the early stage are often not feasible or worth the risk. Instead, and increasingly, these smaller investments are being made by “angels” – individuals or groups that invest directly in businesses as opposed to participating indirectly through a fund. While angels generally lack the value-add of a VC, such as business development and follow-up financial resources, they also tend to be less intrusive – a big plus for some entrepreneurs.

The most successful Venture Capital firms have massive war chests at their disposal. They seem to be increasingly capable of, satisfied with, and focused on, later stage investments in companies that have a high probability of becoming “Unicorns” (privately held firms with with valuations in excess of $1Billion). Time will tell what this trend portends for the startups of today. Generally speaking, diversity tends to be healthy for a population. The test will come if and when a downturn occurs, and we see how patient this new angel money is.

Research Shows That the Best Companies Leverage Cloud Technology

October 8, 2015/in FracTEL Blog /by FracTEL Content

“SMBs Using cloud technology to overcome their challenges grow 26% faster and deliver 21% higher gross profits. 85% of those surveyed believe the cloud enabled their business to scale and grow faster.”

As a provider of cloud technology and an enthusiastic user of some amazing cloud applications, the notion that the best companies leverage cloud technology to execute more effectively comes as no surprise to us. However, it is always powerful to see factual research that provides unambiguous and high-impact validation. This study from Deloitte not only provides data to support what we already believed to be true, it does a terrific job of explaining why cloud technology is having such a revolutionary impact on the business world and zeroes in on the specific attributes that make it so beneficial. We find this report to be particularly interesting in that the analysis shows how businesses at different phases of development (startup, growth, mature) tend to realize different value from cloud technology (respectively: low cost, scalability, innovation). This is a very interesting insight that businesses should ignore at their own peril. In addition, the recognition that mobility is an increasingly dominant business reality and that cloud technology is inherently more conducive to leveraging a mobile workforce is a very forceful argument for embracing cloud technology ASAP.

FracTEL Tele-App Featured on WOFL TV

Safety Tele-App for Real Estate Agents Leverages FracTEL Communications Platform

Savezme, a patent-pending system developed in collaboration with FracTEL by real estate agent Avery Piantedosi, was recently featured on WOFL TV Fox 35 News. Described as a “Personal Safety Tele-App”, the system provides protection when meeting with strangers.

Agents notify the system with the location, timing, estimated length, and other information about a meeting where the safety of the agent may be in jeopardy. At the appointed time, the system automatically calls or texts the agent and requests a confirmation that they are OK. If the agent fails to answer or provide the correct response, the system automatically performs a pre-defined action such as texting or calling a contact and/or notifying E911. While it was designed with real estate agents in mind, the Tele-App is receiving attention from a number of different parties with similar concerns regarding personal protection.

FracTEL Gains Direct Access to Telephone Numbers

June 24, 2015/in FracTEL Blog /by FracTEL Content
Direct Access Will Improve Service and Simplify Number Porting

With a unanimous ruling passed on June 18, 2015, the FCC has made it possible for FracTEL to directly access telephone numbers in North America, removing the need to rely on third party providers for this service. The decision will make it possible for FracTEL to significantly increase the geographic areas to which we can provide service, dramatically improve our ability to quickly and easily provide porting of numbers (LNP) from legacy and other telecommunications providers, and facilitate better service through unimpeded access to routing and other databases.

FracTEL has been an industry leader in supporting direct access, having previously filed a motion with the FCC to participate in the trial program that was established to test the processes associated with this transition. We made a significant investment in establishing the systems required to support these processes and, while our petition was ultimately declined for procedural reasons, our investment leaves us well positioned to take immediate advantage of this ruling.

FracTEL Creates LoveBot TeleApp for Robot Love 3D

February 13, 2015/in FracTEL Blog /by FracTEL Content
Mobile TeleApp Uses SMS to Encourage Event Interaction

With the encouragement of Robot Love 3D curator Derek Gores, FracTEL is sponsoring a unique and entertaining performance art TeleApp for the event, allowing participants to engage in a romantic relationship with a robot companion. When attendees send the message “lovesme” to a FracTEL SMS enabled telephone number, the FracTEL  “LoveBot” initiates “Affection Automation Protocol” and assigns the human a “Pet  Name”. Messages from humans to the LoveBot are rewarded with a poem and are shared with other human lovers, offering a voyeuristic dimension to the TeleApp, and an opportunity to express enthusiasm and share observations of interest. A record of all interactions will be recorded and published as a permanent artifact of the show.

More than 75 artists are featured in the legendary contemporary exhibit of creativity in it’s many forms- Visual art, performing art, live music and interactive displays, often showing the connection between raw creativity, design, technology and innovation.

Broadband Phone Bundles are Bad for Business

January 14, 2015/in FracTEL Blog /by FracTEL Content
Broadband providers should leave business phone services to the professionals.

Every major broadband internet service provider offers some form of “business class” telephone solution. They offer discounts using “bundles” to distract from the fact that what they really offer is little more than a dial tone.  They have no history of ever understanding, or providing, true business-enabling functionality successfully. In order to offer anything beyond a phone number, providers like Comcast, Cox and Bright House rely on third parties to provide the PBX and interconnect features that make business communications work.

There are also structural barriers that restrict the offerings of legacy carriers. No regional provider – even the biggest (i.e. ATT, Verizon, etc.) can provide a true nationwide business product. This is undisputed fact, they simply do not have a nationwide footprint. Never will. On top of that, these closed and proprietary platforms cannot provide the next generation applications that companies can leverage to reduce costs, be more productive, and create true competitive advantages.

Internet service providers have reached the limit of what they can offer and that’s why smart business owners are looking to cloud communications companies for cutting edge telecom solutions that will enable their organization to not just do business as usual, but to thrive, now and in the future.  By choosing the FracTEL Cloud PBX platform, businesses get the reliability and experience of a dedicated business telecommunications provider, combined with the transformative power of cloud based applications that can enable a business to communicate in ways never before possible.

Cloud PBX Makes a Small Business Look Big

December 9, 2014/in FracTEL Blog /by FracTEL Content
It is very important for small business owners to make potential customers feel confident that they are an established, well-staffed organization that is capable and ready to serve them.

FracTEL Cloud PBX has many easy-to-use features that can assist a small business in creating a positive impression. One great example is the Auto-attendant feature.  The Auto-attendant feature allows you to offer your callers a custom greeting for a powerful introduction to the business and lets you define a set of menu options such as Sales, Support, Billing, etc. that portray a robust and fully staffed organization (even if there’s only one person handling all the calls!).  Best of all, your Auto-attendant works around the clock, every day of the year.  The greeting that plays and the routing of menu selections can vary based on the time of day, the season, or special occasions.  By combining Auto-attendant with FindMe/FollowMe, you can ensure that you never miss a call.  With FindMe/FollowMe, you can ring your desk, home office, mobile phone, or smartphone app at the same time or in sequence based on your preference.  In addition, you can take advantage of a marketing opportunity by playing promotional messages while a caller is waiting to get connected.  With the power and flexibility that FracTEL’s Auto-attendant feature provides, the possibilities are endless and any entrepreneur can look like an enterprise without spending a fortune.

FracTEL Connects with the Arts on the Space Coast

December 1, 2014/in FracTEL Blog /by FracTEL Content
Art connects people across continents and all walks of life.

It has the power to change the way we think about our world. As a global communications company, we believe in providing creative solutions that have the power to transform our customers’ businesses.

FracTEL supports the arts in several ways. First and foremost, we directly commission artists local to our home on Florida’s Space Coast to create unique pieces that reflect who we are, where we are from, and what we do. In addition, we sponsor and promote local art, music and theater events and organizations. We believe that a great entrepreneurial community grows from the intersection of technology and creativity.

Consistent with our mission of supporting the arts, FracTEL is sponsoring “The Art Side“ column in the The Beachside Resident.  Each month, The Art Side delivers stories about the growing beachside art scene. Stories range from artist interviews and gallery profiles to gatherings for art lovers and the many art festivals held along the Space Coast. Join us in celebrating our local art community.

Space Coast Business: Breaking Down the Startup Barriers

February 28, 2014/in FracTEL Blog /by FracTEL Content

Startup LaunchPad40 Accelerates New Business Countdown

For anyone who understands the drive and motivating factors that once spurred our community to pull together and explore our galaxy, the potential for technically talented individuals to re-invent themselves as business owners should come as no surprise. Through teamwork, resilience and a “sky’s the limit” attitude, anything is possible.

“We have more engineers and technical talent per capita than anywhere else in the nation,” explained Mark Mohler, a local business tax attorney and founder of LaunchPad40, a Brevard-based investment firm offering micro venture capital to local high-tech start-ups. His venture capital company is designed to assist new businesses with, not only the funding needed to take a bright idea to market, but to also guide, mentor and build relationships with new business owners.

The initial step Mohler took was to facilitate a network of like-minded entrepreneurs to meet and share ideas and advice. His group, called Startup Space Coast, meets monthly and consists of about 80 members. His next goal was to establish a physical meeting space where technical talent and businessmen could share ideas and work together. In partnership with a group called “Coders Hackers & Founders,” a workspace called TrepHub, located at 907 East Strawbridge Avenue in downtown Melbourne, was created.

Funding FracTEL

The obvious next step, Mohler said, was to create a financial mechanism to help businesses get from the planning stage to first stage operation – and that’s where LaunchPad40 came in.

LaunchPad40 recently made its first local investment in FracTEL, a cloud communications company founded by Michael Crown and located in Indialantic. Since 2007, FracTEL has provided online “cloud” telephone and communication services at a 60 to 70 percent savings over traditional phone services. “We offer an exclusive 100 percent up-time guarantee,” said Crown. “Companies can also take advantage of additional savings and extended reach by using the cloud connected devices they already own such as PCs, tablets and smartphones.”

The company’s plan allows unlimited minutes without a contract, allows new customers to keep their old phone numbers, provides a secure “encrypted” network, gives 24/7 support, assures 100 percent up-time and offers a wide array of business features.
